Beneath the name, Beneath our Feet (Pt. 2)
And so continues the series of questions and answers explaining the meaning beneath the name: Beneath our Feet. If you missed Part 1, please read here before continuing :) As always, so glad you’re here.
Who will benefit from BFC?
Anyone and everyone hopefully! But, as already mentioned, the intended audience (friends?) is more specifically: creatives living in the Midwest. (I live in Lincoln, Nebraska). A lot of the material will be Lincoln-centric. I care about the local, physical place I find myself in for the time being. I care about connecting with people in this same physical space. If you are questioning whether you are “creative” enough to “fit in” this group, you are!
Can you give us a picture of what is to come?
As a photographer, I would love to give you a picture haha I have a lot taking root underneath the soil and am hoping to really water some of these ideas and plans in the coming months. From here on out, I plan to post a blog every Tuesday. I also have some podcast interviews in the works, along with some artist celebrations- photojournalistic articles of fellow artists in the Midwest. I am talking with friends first and hopeful that as I get the word out more, one thing will lead to the next. For the blog posts, all of August will be dedicated to a “Beneath” series. Beneath MY feet (all about me, the founder), Beneath YOUR feet (a glimpse of the artists I will be interviewing) and beneath OUR feet (the importance of community). I hope to release the podcast in either late fall or winter.
Wait what? I still don’t get it? I’ve been told as a writer I should assume my readers are intelligent and don’t need me to belittle them by over-explaining everything. Yes, yes, yes, I know you, dear readers, are very intelligent– much more than me, I am sure. I am less concerned with your reading comprehension and more concerned with my ability (or lack thereof) to communicate my vision effectively. Let me attempt to sum this thing up one more time. Beneath our Feet is made up of four essential rhythms-
a weekly blog post,
a monthly artist celebration,
a quarterly physical gathering, and
a seasonal podcast release (hoping for two seasons of 8-12 episodes a year).
These rhythmic expressions all contribute to building these three pillars:
a creative community,
a collection of stories, and
a curated resource.
All in all, we hope to be a source of inspiration for you to cultivate creativity in the land beneath your feet.
I am on board, I am picking up what you’re putting down, I am scooping what you’re pooping, in true BFC fashion, I am digging up what you’re planting– So now what? How can I be involved?
Oooh I love this question, thanks for asking ;) Truly truly the main nutrients needed for this soil to be healthy (aka this thing to exist) is people! I would love any connections you have with fellow creatives. I am planning for the first seasonal release of the podcast to include Nebraskans only. After that, we will extend beyond Nebraska into the greater Midwest. If you or someone you know would like to be featured as either an artist in our monthly Artist Celebration or as a podcast guest (these can overlap!) please email me (or dm or text or show up at my front door). My email is sarahkomesuphoto@gmail.com Also, of course, any feedback (especially positive lol) is welcome! Reading this blog and sharing is another way to encourage this thing along. Following along on instagram is also another way to keep up with what is going on.
Thanks for taking the time to read.
Keep growing!
